Panda Express Opens In Wenatchee

Some excitement on a level a little higher than what would normally be for a lunch or dinner spot hit Wenatchee last week when construction finished an Panda Express opened for business.

Panda Express is located on North Wenatchee Avenue, next to Discount Tire. It’s nearest competition is EZ’s, Wendy’s and Sonic. Convenient Asian food on the north end of town might just be what people are looking for too.

The drive-thru was backed up all the way to the road for the first couple of days. The line was out the door too as hungry locals wanted to try the food out.

It’s a convenient ordering process at Panda Express, as you basically get your choice of three sides and about eight entrees. Order a “bowl” and it’s your choice of one side and one entree. A “plate” gets you one side and two entrees. And for the very hungry, a “bigger plate” which gives you one side and three entrees. You can also get a few special add-ons like egg rolls or order family-size orders too.

It’s always nice to have more choices when it’s time to go get something to eat. Welcome to Wenatchee, Panda Express!

The Liberty Cafe on Blewett Pass

Having driven by it a number of times, finally got to check out the Liberty Cafe on Blewett Pass. This small little eatery sits on the south side of the pass, near the turnoff for Liberty (naturally), and just north of the junction of US 97 and SR 970.

It’s a welcoming place and as soon as you walk in you feel very comfortable. There isn’t a lot of room if you are traveling with a big group but there is plenty of character. Don’t forget to check out the cool collection of coffee mugs too.

The important part though is the food. That’s why you’re stopping, right? They have a good looking breakfast menu and quite a few other meal options too. My son and I were road tripping and since he chose the Bacon Burger… I thought I’d join in…

…and it was awesome. The surprise star of the roadside meal though, for both of us, was the french fries. We later found out that they take pride at the Liberty Cafe in cutting their own fries fresh. You can definitely tell they’re not serving you something frozen out of a bag. It shows.

This will not be the last time we stop at the Liberty Cafe!

The Alps Candy Store – Leavenworth, WA

Another Sunday saw us taking another Sunday road trip. This time it was a short drive just past Leavenworth and through the Tumwater Canyon which is an absolutely gorgeous part of North Central Washington. Tucked away on the west end of the canyon is The Alps Candy Store which is a very special place, whether you are traveling with kids or not.

You walk in and the shelves are filled with candies, hot sauces, relishes, and more.

In the basement is a cool little place called the kids candy room. It is filled with brightly colored treats, some famous brand names and some things you haven’t seen for probably decades. It may be called the kids candy room but I can tell you it’s for adults too.

Up at the front counter back upstairs is one of the most impressive sights you are sure to see. This is where the fresh homemade fudge sits just waiting to be sampled, purchased, and of course eaten. They have an incredible selection of flavors, some you would probably never even have thought of. Getting a nice sized chunk to take home or eat during your drive is a great idea. You can also buy just a small square if that’s what you want too. This is one of the things that will make you stop back at The Alps Candy Store the next time you go driving by.
