Smokey The Bear Sighted At Lake Wenatchee

For those that have never gone camping at Lake Wenatchee State Park on the shores of Lake Wenatchee, it is a beautiful area that shouldn’t be missed. One of the highlights is a presentation by the US Forest Service that is meant to teach children about the dangers of fire. An informative program is put on by the Forest Service that includes interactive question and answer sessions, information from actual wilderness firefighters, and the highlight with most kids… a visit from none other than Smokey the Bear!

The program is given on Saturdays, not every Saturday though so you’ll want to check with the State Park and find out their schedule if you want to have your kids see the program. It is presented at the outdoor amphitheater there at the park and runs about a half hour or so.

Chinook Salmon Fishing Opens On The Icicle River Near Leavenworth

The State of Washington has opened up Chinook Salmon fishing on the Icicle River near Leavenworth. The season will last from May 15th through July 31, 2008 and the legal area to fish in is from 800 feet above the mouth of the river to 500 feet below the fish hatchery. Eight Mile Campground along Icicle Creek

The Icicle Canyon is a great place for summer recreation; camping, fishing, hiking, and more are all there. The first main campground as you go up the Icicle Canyon just outside of Leavenworth, Washington is Eight Mile Campground. Eight Mile Campground offers both RV and tent camp sites. The facilities are limited to outhouse style bathrooms, but the surroundings more than make up for it.

The campgrounds of Icicle Canyon also work great as your headquarters for various hiking opportunities in both the Icicle Canyon area as well as the Enchantments (permits may be required for recreation in the Enchantments).

Let the cold waters of Icicle Creek numb your feet and kick back for a long weekend at Eight Mile Campground.
