The Chelan Also Carries Passengers On The Waters Of Puget Sound

We recently posted about the M/V Wenatchee, one of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s ferries that carries passengers on the waters of Puget Sound. There is another ferry that is part of the fleet named after a North Central Washington community, the M/V Chelan.

The Chelan is powered by two diesel engines and is one of the Issaquah Class ferries in the fleet (the others being the M/V Cathlamet and the M/V Sealth. The Chelan travels at a speed of 16 knots and is 328 feet in length. The capacity of the Chelan is 1,076 passengers and 124 vehicles. There is elevator access to the passenger area up above for anyone who drives onto the ferry to use if they would like. Currently the Chelan runs on one of the state ferry system’s international routes, traveling between Anacortes, Orcas Island, Friday Harbor, and Sidney, British Columbia.
