Local Hiking In Wenatchee, WA

With the weather turning warmer and the thought of being outside more and more tempting we thought we’d like to cover some quick trips to the trails if you’re either from or happen to find yourself in Wenatchee.
Wenatchee is lucky enough to sit right on the Columbia River which provides for a wide range of water activity, but Wenatchee also has several local hiking opportunities that you don’t have to even travel too far for.
Saddlerock
The hike up to Saddlerock is short but steep. It provides some breathtaking views of Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, and up and down the Columbia River. On a clear day it is not unusual to have a good view all the way to Rocky Reach Dam and beyond. There are two trails that access Saddlerock; one trail leads up from the south end near the Appleatchee Horse area, while the other leads up from the north end near the Wenatchee Racquet Club (trailhead pictured below).
Sage Hills
Sage Hills is an area of the foothills to the west of Wenatchee, accessible from a trailhead located up Number One Canyon. Sage Hills offers limited elevation, but fantastic rolling hillsides and great views. A nice area that is being protected and saved from the housing developments that sometimes seems to be taking over the area.
Twin Peaks Road
Located at the top of Number Two Canyon, Twin Peaks Road makes a great hike. It has some good elevation gain, but also has some great views, and depending on the time of year, some wonderful wildflowers. To get there drive the almost-five-miles up Number Two Canyon, about 3/4 of a mile past the end of the pavement you’ll come to a gated road. Park here, you’ll be hiking up the gated road. The road does get some occasional mountain bikers, but is fairly peaceful. There is an old foundation on the left after a little while and it does spur off into a side trail through a gorgeous meadow. The road does some switchbacks as it climbs, eventually leading to a couple of spots where you can look back to the east over Wenatchee.
Mission Ridge Area
There are also tons of hiking opportunities in the Mission Ridge area about 7 miles south of town. A lot of the trails in this area link up to the Mission Creek and Devil’s Gulch trail system and can take you all the way to Cashmere.
So, if you’re from Wenatchee… or just going to be in the Wenatchee area take some time for a quick day hike or two. You won’t regret it.
