Photos from a visit to the Mad River area of North Central Washington

Whether you’re just going for the day, or looking for an overnight trip, a drive up Mad River Road just may fit the bill. Surrounded by the rugged boulder and pine encrusted mountains, the Mad River rages (for a small river) down towards Ardenvoir and the Entiat River.
A few miles up Mad River Road from Ardenvoir, across a bridge on the left, is this unusual structure that is built into the hillside. It measures 12 to 15 feet wide and about 8 feet deep and has a large bench running the entire width in the back. If anyone has an idea what this was please let us know by using the comment section.
Take a moment to check out our Mad River Gallery, located inside our Rivers Lakes & Creeks gallery of North Central Washington.

THE ROCK TUNNEL IS A CELLAR WHERE THE INDIAN CREEK ROAD TIES INTO MAD RIVER ROAD. THAT WAS CHARLIE GRAY’S HOUSE. THE HOUSE BURNED. THE CELLAR WAS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE HOUSE.
Thanks for the information – it is always great to learn a little bit more about the history of our area.
Thanks again!
